Description
Land pirates and raiders, the Bashkars do not knuckle under to the Imperial forces who have recently moved in to the Realm. They are mounted on fast horses, and are renowned for their hit and run attacks on the lackeys of the establishment. They tend to gather in the Woods, only approaching the sparse settlements of the Realm when a powerful leader comes along to sway their loyalty.
Trading
The Bashkars possess the game's stock of Ponies, which are (obviously) the fastest of the horses, and useful to the Light and Medium characters. Their double move bonus allows any character (but especially the Amazon) to get to anywhere on the board very quickly. Additionally, most ponies have a move time or 2 or 3 on their galloping side, which is a tremendous bonus on combat - for example it allows the Swordsman to use his Fight L2** chit to attack and still manoeuvre fast enough to not be undercut by anything (except perhaps the Octopus).
Hiring
The Bashkars are best used against L and M characters and monsters. They can surround and overwhelm these foes with little difficulty - 2 Bashkars can go into every attack direction - but against H Armoured and T characters and denizens they are useless. If being used against the Soldiers for example, they will need support to take out SHQ (a Great Swordsman - H and armoured) or he will eventually destroy them all. Since they have Ponies, it is also good to Follow them if you need to cross the map quickly.
Fighting
When fighting against the Bashkars, you will need some very fast Move and Fight chits, vulnerability of H with armour or T without, or lots of help. Like other mounted natives, they are actually faster when off their horses than they are mounted. But their horses give them an extra "hit point", meaning that you actually have to kill each Bashkar twice. Since there is six of them, that's a lot of rounds.
