Description

Authority falls to the Patrol for day-to-day maintenance of peace and order in the Realm. Their authority ultimately derives from the Empire, and they can be seen in all of the valleys of the Realm.

Trading

Again, there is not a lot here for most characters. However, they can turn up at any Dwelling, which means that they are usually easy to find.

Hiring

Perhaps best used to search for treasure sites. The Patrol's main advantage is that they are mounted, so each Short Swordsman has effectively two hit points. You can Follow them to take advantage of their horses' movement bonuses, but they are not terribly effective against monsters. They could be helpful against other characters or native groups though.

Fighting

Fighting against the Patrol is not difficult. The main problem is that they will always turn up at dwellings where there is a garrison, and it is quite possible for the garrison to start fighting as well. Fighting against the Patrol is not hard, but fighting against the Patrol, Rogues and Company all at once is a recipe for disaster. The Patrol are much faster unmounted than they are mounted. Most characters can easily undercut a workhorse, but then the Patrol are manoeuvring at speed 3 at best. Their workhorses have vulnerability of Heavy, while the Patrol themselves are Medium and Armoured. This means that normally you will need to be able to inflict H damage to kill them, so it would not be advisable for the Swordsman, for example.
