Episode 5

by AG last modified 10-05-2007 02:53

The party finds the obelisk they have been looking for, and Tor is given a choice.

Continuing through the dungeon, the group was attacked by one further ghast before finally coming up against two of the remaining priests - one human and one troglodyte. The trog was wearing different coloured robes and bore a different unholy symbol than the others.

They found a pit, with a platform on a pulley which allowed them to descend. However, on the way down they were attacked by a thing that appeared to be a gigantic floating brain with multiple tentacles. Fortunately it was already wounded, and they were able to dispatch it with little effort and continue descending.

The "floor" that they came to resembled black marble, with violently purple veins. As soon as any of them touched it, the veins started crawling towards them, which compelled them to decide to touch the block as little as possible. This "floor" was in fact the top surface of a large inverted obelisk which was housed in a gigantic cavern. A second platform-and-pulley allowed egress to the actual floor of this cavern.

From here, they were able to see that the whole gigantic obelisk was balanced on its point at the top of a stone pillar which appeared to be raised from the floor of the cavern. Bravely Tor climbed to the top of this pillar, and took a whack at the point of the obelisk with Moradin's Finger. He immediately vanished.

The others didn't have time to react though, as at that moment the last of the evil priests leapt out and attacked them. He was clearly insane, but at the last moment before he died he infect Marbo with Red Ache (using a Contagion spell).

Once the fight was over, Tor reappeared with a black fruit in his hands. After spending a minute or two in prayer, he related the story that he had appeared in a black spherical chamber which appeared to me made from the same substance as the obelisk. A voice told him "Seek the hearts of the four moons, thus may my prison walls be broken. For now, eat and be blessed." Needless to say, he did not partake of the black fruit. He thought that he would be trapped until he ate it, and was prepared for a long stay.
